Why we celebrate International Women’s Day

Essay on women's day

Why do we celebrate International Women’s Day?

Mahatma Gandhi Ji once said: "Woman is the companion of man, gifted with equal mental capacity, if by strength is meant moral power, then a woman is immeasurably man's superior, if non-violence is the law of our being, the future is with women."

International Women's Day
is observed on 8 March worldwide. Women all over the world celebrate it but Have you ever wondered why International Women's Day is celebrated only on March 8?

First Question:- When did the first Women's Day begin?

International Women's Day begins with a labour movement. In the meantime, the swat fell when 15,000 women set foot in New York City in the United States for less than an hour on the job. He also demanded better wages and the right to vote. A year later, the American Socialist Party declared this day the first National Women's Day.

Second question:- How was National Women's Day transformed into International Women's Day?

The idea came from a woman, Clara zetkin, whose creation is an example from 1910, who suggested International Women's Day be celebrated during an international activist women's conference in Copenhagen Denmark

About 100 women from 17countries who attended the conference and all supported this suggestion.

International Women's Day was first celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland in the year 1911 but technically 107 Women's Day was celebrated in 2018.

In the year 1975, International Women's Day was given by the official Recognition when the United Nations started celebrating it annually with a theme. The first theme of International Women's Day was Celebrate "The Past Planning Photo Future".

Third question. Why International Women's Day is celebrated only on 8 March.

Actually, the Clara zetkin setback did not confirm any date to celebrate Women's Day. During the war in the year 1917, Russian women demanded bread and peace. The women's strike forced Emperor Nicholas to step down and the government gave women the right to vote.

The Julian calendar was used in Russia at the time when women started this strike. That date was 23 February. Every day in the Gregorian calendar was 8 March and since then International Women's Day began to be celebrated on 8 March.

The fourth question:- Is there an International Men's Day too?

Yes, you can also read about International men's Day on our blog, International Men's Day is celebrated on 19 November. It started in 1990. However, it is not recognized by the United Nations.

There are currently 605 countries worldwide that celebrate International Men's Day. It aims to enhance the gender health relations of men, promote gender equality and increase positivity among them. The theme of International Men's Day in 2017 is "Celebrity Men and Boys".

Fifth question:- how International Women's Day is celebrated in the world?

In many countries, a national holiday is declared on this day. In Russia and many other countries, the price of flowers increases around this day.

During this time, women and men give flowers to each other. In most offices in China, women are given half-day leave. At the same time, the month of March is celebrated as Women's History Month in America.

Every year the United Nation has a theme annotated for women's rights and the theme for 2014 is

  • 2014:- "Equality for Women is Progress for All.

  • 2015:- "Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity: Picture it!

  • 2016:- "Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality

  • 2017:- "Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030

  • 2018:- "Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women's lives time is now:
  • Rural and urban activists transforming women's lives

  • 2019:-"Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change

  • 2020:-"I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights ”

As we read over the weekend, Women's Day is sometimes celebrated on a different date. For example, in 2020, it will be celebrated on Monday, March 9 in Ukraine. Do you have any opinions? Let us know in the comment box If you like it then please share my blogs, god bless you all.
