Essay on reading habits of modern youth

In the 21st century, reading is no longer confined to just printed books, newspapers, and magazines. The scope offered by the Internet has revolutionized the reading habits of the current generation.

It is a known fact that most parents encourage their children to read books related to the school curriculum.

There is a section of parents, though small in number, who discourage and despise their children to read other books because they want their children to spend their time reading only those things which can fetch them good marks.

Hence, the kind of books and reading material read by the students of this generation during their teenage years are mostly their textbooks.

Researchers believe that the Internet has affected not only the ways the current generation reads but also their reading choices.

The Internet and the availability of search engines like Google have made it easy to prepare essays and projects.

Now, students do not need to step out of their homes or turn the pages of a book to find a particular content within the book.

They just need to click a button and they will have everything they see on their computer screen within seconds.

Just searching for keywords can get them the exact content without having to read the whole article. There was a time when a good number of teenagers used to spend time reading.

However, this generation of teenagers has found alternatives to spending their time on internet games, television, and social networking sites.

Despite this, it cannot be ignored that now more books are being sold. More authors and publishers are benefiting from the publishing industry.

There are still voracious readers who enjoy reading the works of Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Dickens, and Dostoevsky. The emergence of e-books has revolutionized the publishing industry.

Along with this, there exists another large section of people who read books by contemporary young Indian authors like Chetan Bhagat and Ravinder Singh.

Although the quality of these books is a matter of debate among writers and literature lovers, it is a fact that these books have encouraged a large section of the urban Indian middle class to start reading.

Thus books enrich our minds with ideas, experiences, and understanding. Reading keeps one always happy and busy. We must inculcate the habit of reading books.

Essay on decreasing reading habits among students

This habit is fast fading as it cannot be denied that today's youth have lost touch with books. Reading among the youth has deteriorated in such a way that it creates concern among the literature-loving section of society. Students are under pressure to perform and the concept of intrinsic value addition is now a lost idea. In an era, when browsing the internet, playing with cell phones, and sending SMS and messages on various social media platforms seems to be the order of the day, reading a book in a peaceful corner of the library has become an archaic idea for most. of people. But a culture of reading books is important for independent knowledge acquisition and lifelong learning. It builds the qualities necessary for self-growth and national development in an individual. But today, most of the free time is consumed by the internet, mobile phones, social sites, TV, and entertainment programs as these occupy the mind of modern youth. One negative effect of social networking sites on the younger generation is that it is taking them away from the world of print. This is huge because Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites are attracting more of them. The dwindling number of visitors to various public libraries and the declining business of major booksellers and publishers in the state attest to the growing apathy of the intellectuals towards books. Modern youth have forgotten that reading a book not only nourishes the soul but also rejuvenates the human intellect in probing things deeply, analyzing things, and providing guidance to people for such examples of life, to which they have not yet been exposed. The habit of reading enables the mind to think about the objects of interest and helps the individual to make informed decisions. Unfortunately, the number of book readers is continuously declining which is an indication of a lack of knowledge in the future. Certainly reading new media requires less effort; Partly because there is less new media content. There is also a tendency to add more visuals, to make content more digestible. The downside is that new media content loses the breadth of the traditional printed effort in this sense. Another reason for the decline in reading habits is that nowadays books are available in audio form; Makes it easy to consume the contents of the book while participating in other activities. This remains controversial, as it often affects the quality of both activities you are attempting to multitask in your own way. Of course, the 'new media' that people are employing is different from literary texts, and the difference in style can make a real difference. Those learners/consumers are employing media that differ in style and the way information is disseminated, as individuals who employ these new media are less oriented to the more literary structure of books. Another issue is how the declining book reading habits are measured….if this is done without careful consideration of how audiobooks and electronic books have affected the sales of physical books and how they are used by individuals. How the data is shared can be less accurate. After TV and Nintendo New Media, It has actively contributed to the death of reading. Unfortunately, we have lost our sense of complexity and logical thought and, more importantly, the ability to identify contradictions and lies. Emily Dickinson wrote, "There is no frigate like a book to take us off the ground." Reading still plays and will continue to play an important role in our society, in the future. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the role of reading has diminished and will continue to shrink. I see that reading electronically has increased significantly while reading books having physical copies has declined. Reading has diminished but not disappeared, for me the feeling that the book and the bond it creates is something that comes with age. The present young generation does both. Early childhood reading habits can make a difference in the long run.
