8 Places to Spend Your Honeymoon

8 Places to Spend Your Honeymoon

Your wedding is one of the most joyous occasions in your life, only second to the honeymoon and the adventure you and your partner plan for celebrating your new life together.

The options are limited only by your imagination, preferences, budget and timeframe. Here are some ideas to help you plan an amazing trip that will give you memories to tell your grandchildren about.

1. A Cruise

Taking a cruise for a honeymoon may not be the most original idea, but it is a solid choice because of the variety of places you can go, the options of things to do on the ship and the reality that once you get on board, all you have to do is have fun.

You don't have to try and find parking, a decent restaurant or entertainment because it is all part of the deal. If you plan a cruise for your honeymoon, you could go to Alaska, the Bahamas or the Mediterranean for three days or three weeks and know ahead of time how much everything will cost. You could start a tradition of going on a cruise to a different location with every big anniversary to add to your cruise photo albums on your coffee table.

2. A Beach

Booking a honeymoon suite at a hotel with a view of a beach is a very romantic choice. Keep in mind the seasonal weather and popular tourist time of what beach interests you so can plan around hurricanes and price spikes.

Don't limit yourself to the coasts but check out lakes, too, such as Lake Tahoe or any of the Great Lakes for beautiful sandy scenery. Many beach communities have wonderful local restaurants and nightlife that will make your honeymoon experience complete.

3. A Cabin

Many of our national and state parks have cabins for rent during most months of the year. All comfort levels can be accommodated by choosing one that is rustic with just the essentials of lodging or a deluxe one that has all the features of home.

Spending your honeymoon in a cabin will give you the chance to take long hikes together in breathtaking mountains or to picture-perfect waterfalls. The view outside your window could be the cover of the photo album of your once-in-a-lifetime trip.

4. A Big City

There are so many amazing cities both in our country and outside our borders that are friendly to tourists that if you and your partner love big cities, it may be hard to narrow it down to one. You can either spend a week in a city that is special to you and explore your favorite spots, or you can set your sights on that city you have always dreamed of seeing and make that dream come true on your honeymoon.

Maybe you have always wanted to see a Broadway show, the Golden Gate Bridge or Fenway Park, and now is the time to make it happen. If you can go overseas, you can do a tour of a few major cities or focus on one favorite and get to know it well.

5. A Country Town

Every state in our country is full of those quaint little towns that have gorgeous family-owned bed and breakfast inns that love to host honeymooners.

Maybe there are wineries or breweries nearby, a well-known art scene or a famous landmark that will be interesting to visit during your slow-paced vacation. Instead of running from one planned event to another, you can catch your breath from your wedding week and take some time to relax and enjoy the peacefulness.

6. A Farmhouse

You can take the time during your honeymoon to experience something completely different from your normal day-to-day life and rent a farmhouse for your special time together.

Most are the same price as an average hotel room and have more amenities. Depending on what your preferences are, you can find farms with animals that the owners welcome you to interact with.

The family will provide you with information on local interests if you want to venture off the farm, or you can just spend the whole time in your home away from home. If you have always wanted to see what the night sky looks like away from the city lights, this could be the perfect opportunity to find out.

7. A Chalet

Whether you enjoy skiing, snowboarding or just hot tubs, a chalet could be that honeymoon destination that is a splurge you wouldn't otherwise dream of taking the time to indulge.

The beauty of the resorts and the high level of deluxe accommodations available make chalets a beautiful place to spend time together that will only be topped by your golden anniversary celebration.

While there are some amazing choices in our country, this could also be the occasion to venture outside our continent and visit France, Austria or the Swiss Alps.

8. A Resort

The great thing about going to a resort for your honeymoon is that you can pay for it ahead of time and once you get there, you don't worry about anything but having a wonderful time doing everything the resort offers or nothing at all, depending on your style.

There are resorts in almost every climate your might want to enjoy and they all have various forms of entertainment or special interests. Do you two like to golf?

There are resorts for that, or if you like to scuba, there are resorts that specialize in that, too. Just pick what experience you would like to have and there is probably a resort you can book for it.

Planning a wedding can be a very tense, anxious experience that calls for a fantastic honeymoon to unwind from.

You need to celebrate the life you are beginning together with a great adventure, a peaceful time or a little of both. Honeymoon planning is important and should be a source of fun and excitement because it is just for the two of you and can be whatever you make it.
